Teaching English to Young Learners

2. Create a song book for the classroom or for individual   use 
Language Focus                   : Vocabulary
Language Expression          : what is your religion?
                                                  My religion is Islam (I am a Moslem)
                                                  My religion is Protestant (I am a Christian)
Class time                              : through out the term
Teaching Media                   : Song, The attributes of each religions in local content
 (e. g. Sajadah, Angpao, pictures of house of praying,
   etc)
Pedagogical Reason                        : Song is the interesting media to deliver the material
                                                  to the young learners. They will be enthusiastic in
                                                  studying. They will be easier to accept the materials.
Procedure:
  1. Teacher shows the attribute of each religion in local content.
Whose religion has this? Teacher asks the students that how many religions in local area.
  1. Teacher asks the students, whose religion has that attribute.
(Teacher shows Sajadah (Angpao, picture of the religion’s ceremony, etc., to the students)
  1. Teacher gives the students a small paper equal to A4 paper divided into for slide).
  2. Teacher presents the song first, and then students follow after. (the rhythm of the song as like song Eno Lerian “Kamu Makannya Apa” )
Religions
There are six religions                                
Religions in Pontianak
They are Islam, Buddha
Kong Hu Chu and Catholic
Hindu and the last Protestant
(two times)
Idul Fitri for Islam Society
Vesak for Buddha and Hindu has Nyepi
Imlek Kong Hu Chu
Christmas for Protestan and Catholic

  1. Students and teacher work trough the song during the term, allowing the students write the lyrics they sing and to color the lyric sheet as teacher goes.
  2. Have the students gather all the song into a book and decorate the cover.
